Introduction
A water resource may need to be prescribed to ensure that South Australia's water is not overused and is secure for everyone's future. Once a water resource is prescribed, all people who take water from that prescribed resource need a license or approval from the Minister to do so.
Prescription involves setting rules and regulations around a water resource so water users have fair access to water. This improves water security for all users. Community consultation must take place before a water resource is prescribed.
