River Murray Infrastructure Data

Launch Map

The Department has created an interactive map showing structures on the River Murray floodplain that could now be submerged due to high flows in the river.

The information is intended to help boat users stay safe, particularly on floodplains, wetlands and creeks which are now receiving water.

Structures could include fences and earthen walls, and some could be partially or fully submerged.

The map includes GPS locations for each structure, and, where available, photographs or drawings. Boat users are advised to exercise caution at all times, and to also take heed of further information from the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure.

  1. This map show pieces of infrastructure along the River Murray in South Australia that are used to regulate water flows in and around the wetlands along the River Murray Channel.  They were surveyed by the SA Murray-Darling Basin NRM Board, and may pose a hazard to navigation during elevated flow conditions.
  2. This map has been developed to assist in public safety and emergency response planning.
  3. The information contained in this map was correct at the time of the survey, during 2009 and 2010. Whilst every care has been taken in collecting this information, this map should only be used as a guide for broad risk management and planning and should not be used to draw conclusions about hazards in specific places.
  4. The infrastructure represented on this map does not include every item that may pose a hazard to navigation.
  5. Current condition and appearance of pieces of infrastructure may vary from what is shown, as the survey was conducted during a period of low flows.
  6. This map should not be interpreted as delineating safe areas that are free from hazards.
  7. This map has been prepared and are provided by the Department. Although all reasonable care has been taken in preparing this map, it is provided in good faith and for general information only. No warranty, express or implied, is given as to the completeness, correctness, accuracy, reliability or currency of the information contained in the maps. The Minister for Water and the River Murray or any employees of the Department accept no liability however arising for any loss or damage resulting from the use of the information contained in the map or any reliance placed on them.
