Introduction

The Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources produces annual Groundwater Status Reports for each of the significant groundwater resources in South Australia. These include four Prescribed Water Resource Areas (PWRAs), 14 Prescribed Wells Areas (PWAs), and in some cases, other areas of significant groundwater use.

Groundwater Status Reports include:

  • information on regional hydrogeology;

  • information on recent rainfall and extraction data;

  • information on water level and salinity trends; and

  • an assessment of the status of the groundwater resource at current use levels.

Surface Water Status Reports summarise available data on climate, streamflow, salinity and water use, and compare with recent and long term data to provide an indication of the status of prescribed surface water resources. Each element is discussed with reference to recent or more long-term trends where, if at all, they are present in the data. The reports include seven PWRAs and one Prescribed Watercourse.
